Missing Yearbooks
Milby High School is missing several yearbooks.  If any Alumnus would like to donate theirs, they would be added to the district archives.  The missing years are as follows:  1927, 1958, 1960, 1963 and 1972.  If anyone can help, please contact the School Librarian:

Milby Alumni Corner
By Owen Conerly, Milby Alumni President, Class of 1956
Saturday, October 28, 2006 was the day Milby celebrated its 80th
Anniversary and Homecoming events. This was our 3rd Anniversary
celebration which we started in 1996 with the 70
th event. I would
estimate that we had about 2 hundred plus Milby Alumni and Friends at
the school to celebrate. Prior to the Homecoming events several of
Milby’s graduating classes held reunions which I was invited to attend.
At one of the Reunions several Milby facts were brought to my attention
about Milby graduates who have had careers in Public Life as elected
officials.

Some one made a statement that Milby High School had more elected officials than any other High School in the State of Texas. I can not prove or disprove this statement but I do know of some trues for Milby. One of which is that Milby is the only High School to have two Texas Supreme Justices serve on the Court at the same time. They are Justice Bob Gammage (1956) and Gene Cook (1957). In addition we have had several graduates serve as State Representatives and City Council Representatives at the same time. They are Representatives Bill Swanson (1937) and Bob Gammage (1956), Bill Keese (1967) and Ron Waters (1968); City Council members Gordon Quan (1966) and Carol Alvarado (1986).

While researching those Milby Alumni who have served as public elected officials I discovered the following facts. Milby has had three State Senators serve from this area. They are as follows: Mr. Searcy Bracewell (1935), Mr. Bob Gammage (1956) and Mr. Mario Gallegos, Jr. (1969). Milby has had 1 serve as a US Representative, 6 graduates served as State Representatives, 4 served on Houston City Council, 2 served on Houston Port Commission, and others serve as Judges in Harris County, District, and State.

Presently we have 5 serving in various elected positions in Harris County. They are in Class
order as follows: Hannah Chow (1966), District Judge, Mario Gallegos, Jr. (1969) State Senator, Jo Ann Delgado (1978) Justice of Peace, Carol Alvarado (1986) Houston City Council, and Diana Davila (1991) President, Board of Education, HISD. The Alumnus who served the longest in elected office is Frank Mancuso (1935), who served 30 years on Houston City Council.

Many have asked questions about purchasing engraved pavers in the Alumni Plaza. Engraved pavers are available for sale and graduating Seniors may purchase one for $25.00. Forms are available. Please continue the “Spirit of Milby”.

country by state and local organizations with expertise in mentoring, youth development, and/or disability. The RAMP model utilizes a combination of group, peer, and one-on-one mentoring to promote the successful transition of RAMP youth to employment, continued learning opportunities, and independent living.
